1.7 Venting Systems

Common trap: A vent must not connect to the drainage pipe below the trap weir. The vent connection must be above the trap weir, and the trap arm must not have a vertical drop before the vent connection.
1.8 Water Supply Sizing and Backflow Prevention
Water supply sizing uses the fixture unit method (Table 604.3 in IPC). The total water supply fixture units (WSFU) determine the minimum pipe size based on the available pressure and the developed length of the supply. 1.9 OSHA 29 CFR 1926 — Construction Safety for Plumbers
OSHA Subpart P applies to excavations, and Subpart E to personal protective equipment. For the master plumber, the key requirements:
Excavation safety: Any trench deeper than 5 feet requires a protective system (shoring, shielding, or sloping). A competent person must inspect the trench daily and after rain.

1.11 Practical Field Points and Exam Traps
